Member Alert: Yahoo E-Mail Accounts!
You may have recently seen on the news or read a news article online regarding a recent security breach with Yahoo email accounts. In order to help you protect your personal information, we wanted to provide you with some tips to help you ensure your accounts are protected.
If you have a Yahoo email account, in an effort to help safeguard your account and any personal information linked to that account, complete the following list of tasks as soon as possible:
Open your browser and go to Yahoo. Do not click on and/or use any unverified link in any email. Reset your password and make it a strong, complex password or rather a pass-phrase that uses a combination of letters, numbers and other characters.
- If you were using that same password on multiple websites, you need to stop and start using different passwords for different accounts and user access. Using the same password everywhere is an invitation to get hacked. If you have been using your Yahoo password on other websites, go to those sites and change the password there too. Also, update your security questions and answers.
- Use a free password manager that can generate hard-to-hack passwords, along with tracking and remembering them for you.
- Watch out for any phishing emails that relate to Yahoo in any way and forward the suspicious email to Yahoo directly.
- Finally, now is a good time to use Yahoo Account Key, a simple authentication tool that eliminates the need to use a password altogether.
For more information or if you feel your account may have been hacked, Yahoo has information available here.
